In 2009, beyondblue again teamed up with Global Rock Challenge to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety and ways that young people, their parents and teachers can get help. The Global Rock Challenge run the annual Rock Eistedfodd.
Congratulations to all of the young people involved in the choreography, organisation, sets and dance. The crew from Youthbeyondblue attended some of the finals and were very impressed. The performances have been amazing! Every one of the 30,000 students taking part this year should be congratulated for getting involved in such a positive event.
A telecast of performances from the grand finalists will be feature on Channel 9 on Saturday 31st October at 1pm and Saturday 7 November at 1pm.
To raise community awareness about depression and anxiety disorders at the Rock Eistedfodd beyondblue:
- presented a beyondblue award for school community support to a school in each state and territory
- organised a blue room (instead of a green room) where teachers could rest their weary feet, take some time out to look after themselves and relax with tea and coffee
- had a beyondblue volunteer at many of the Rock Eistedfodd events. The volunteers handed out more than 10,000 wristbands! To order some wristbands for you and your friends click here.
Depression and anxiety were again strong themes throughout the performances developed by schools. A performance entitled One in Five focused on mental health in young people swept the awards and will be featured on the national finals telecast.
