Some of Australia’s finest musical talent will gather in Melbourne next month to inspire young artists and to help tackle depression and anxiety in young people.

Dream Inc is a three day music workshop for aspiring artists between the ages of 10 and 30. In its first year, Dream Inc Music Workshops aim to support young artists by providing an encouraging environment where students can work with some of Australia’s best musical talent to develop their skills in singing, songwriting and performance.

Eskimo Joe, Katie Noonan and Ella and Jesse Hooper will share their experiences and offer advice to participants.

The course also aims to inspire and foster self-belief and self-esteem. Unlike music reality TV shows, the workshops are not a competition, but are about making sure everyone involved can perform to their maximum potential.

In partnership with sports, entertainment and media group IMG, Dream Inc is also putting the spotlight on depression and anxiety among young people in Australia. Around 160,000 young Australians aged 16-24 years live with depression.

During the workshops, Dream Inc and IMG will partner with beyondblue: the national depression initiative to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety among the young people attending.

As part of the presentation, beyondblue Ambassador and Aussie rock icon Mark Gable (The Choirboys) will share his story. The recently-released Youthbeyondblue TV advertisements will also be screened and Youthbeyondblue materials will be available to all workshop participants.

A percentage of profits from the workshops will be donated to beyondblue.

The workshops will be held at Melbourne Town Hall from18-20 September.
