beyondblue is working to improve the mental health of people who are attracted to the same sex

In 2008, beyondblue and the Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University began research into whether people in the gay, lesbian and bisexual communities are more likely to experience depression, anxiety and related disorders.

The researchers found that young people, particularly young women, who are attracted to people of the same sex are more likely to experience depression and anxiety. According to the report, bisexual young people are the most likely develop mental health problems.

Depression and anxiety in gay, lesbian and bisexual young people is often associated with issues with discrimination and the person feeling like they can’t get help or don’t know where to go for help.
