beyondblue gets involved in workshops with some of Australia’s favourite musicians

Melbourne based company, Dream Incorporation and IMG (International Management Group) have joined forces to announce an exciting alternative to standard music workshops and classes currently available in Australia.

The Dream Inc Music Workshops deliver a program that will allow participants the opportunity to gain a better knowledge of songwriting, singing, and performing skills via the exclusive services of established rock, pop acts, and industry professionals.

This year’s inaugural workshops event will take place at the Melbourne Town Hall on September 18, 19 and 20 and will feature:

  • Eskimo Joe, one of Australia’s most successful contemporary rock bands.
  • Katie Noonan, former lead vocalist of the band ‘george’ and now an established solo artist in her own right.
  • Brooke Fraser, originally from New Zealand and now one of Australia’s most esteemed singer/songwriters.
  • Ella and Jesse Hooper formerly of Killing Heidi and now in their new incarnation: The Verses.

The line up will be complimented by Seymour Stein, the founder of Sire Records. Seymour has signed some of the world’s highest selling artists including Madonna, Talking Heads, The Ramones and most recently, Australia’s very own - The Veronicas. More artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

Aside from the music education aspect of the workshops, the course also aims to inspire and foster self-belief and self-esteem in its participants. Unlike music based reality shows, The Dream Inc Music Workshops are not a competition. They are not about ‘coming first’; they are about enabling everyone involved to be the ‘best they can be’.

During the workshops, Dream Inc and IMG will partner with beyondblue, the national depression initiative to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety among the young people attending.

beyondblue CEO Leonie Young said: “We are pleased to have this opportunity to let young people know that help is available if they are feeling stressed or down. We encourage them to Look for the signs of depression, listen to their friends’ experiences, talk about what’s going on and seek help together.”

“We recognise that if young people do want to follow a career in the entertainment industry, they need to be resilient. It’s marvelous to know there’s so much help available to young people to achieve their dreams. It’s a dynamic field and I’m pleased that there’s plenty of information for young people about where to get help on our website at youthbeyondblue.com,” she said.

Dream Incorporation Pty Ltd was formed by music industry executives Michael Parisi, Frank Varrasso and one of Australia’s leading music and singing coaches, David Jaanz.

“Our workshops are truly unique. Not only will we have seasoned professionals guiding our participants, we have established artists and superstar acts sharing not just their skills and artistry, but their wisdom and values. It will be a humbling experience for all concerned,” Michael Parisi said.

“On top of this, the essence of the workshops is what truly excites us. We’re creating an environment where there is no expectation and no pressure. We want everyone involved to not just enjoy themselves, but to be themselves. I know that we will discover some real talent in this kind of atmosphere, and that’s an added bonus for all.”

David Jaanz added: “The exciting aspect of the workshops is that the focus of the teaching programme will be the evolution of ’singer to artist’. Therefore, it will compliment the students currently enrolled in different singing schools studying different techniques and cater for the beginner to the professional. There will be specialist rock, pop, jazz and song writing workshops. It will be an incredible three day journey into self discovery and creativity.”
